Nithya Menen is an Indian film actress. She was born on 1988 April 8. She was born in Bangalore, Karnataka. She belongs to a Malayali family. As she wanted to be a journalist, she studied journalism at Manipal University. She had not dreamt to be an actress then. However later her interest in journalism decreased as she realized that journalism was not what it used to be. Then she decided to be a filmmaker. She thought that she could express her ideas and views through films. She studied cinematography at the FTII Pune. At that time she met B. V. Nandini Reddy. She pursued Nithya Menen to start acting. Later Nandini Reddy took Nithya Menen as the main female role in her first project in 2011. It was a romantic comedy named Ala Modalaindi. That film got good reviews. She received the Nandi Award for the Best Actress because of her acting skills. Also, she was nominated for the Best actress award in 59th Film fare awarding ceremony.
After acting in Ala Modalaindi she acted in the historical fiction named Urumi by Santosh Sivan. She played the character of a Chirakkal princess named Bala. She got good reviews for that act too. Later she appeared in Sibi Malayil’s Violin in Malayalam and in the Tamil film named Veppam produced by Gautham Menon.
Nithya Menen’s first film was The Monkey Who Knew Too Much (1998) which was an Indian English language film. She was 10 years old when she acted in that film. She played the character of the younger sister of Tabu in that film. She acted the main role in the Kannada film 7 O’ Clock in 2006. It was directed by a famous filmmaker named Santosh Rai Pataje. She started her acting career with that film. She acted in the film Aakasha Gopuram which was directed by K. P. Kumaran. He is a very talented and famous director. She acted with the actor Mohanlal in that. Then she acted in the Kannada film Josh which became very popular. She only played a supporting role in that film. That film was commercially successful and got good reviews. Because of her outstanding performance in that film she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award in the 57th Film fare awarding ceremony.
Nithya Menen has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. Her first Telugu film was Awe which was a psychological thriller.
Nithya Menen acted in Telugu romance film Ishq in 2012 with Nitin Reddy. She received the Best Actress award in CineMAA Awards and she was nominated as the Best Actress in SIIMA Awards. She acted in Karmayogi which was an adaption from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It was a Malayalam film. She acted in three Telugu films in 2013 named Okkadine, Jabardasth and Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde. She received the award of Best Telugu Actress at the 61st Film fare Awards for her act in Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde and it was her first Film fare award.
In 2015 she acted in the Telugu film named Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju. It was successful and her performance was amazing. She received Nandi Special Jury Award and Film fare Critics Award for best Actress South for her acting skills shown in that film. She acted in a Malayalam film named Praana by V K Prakash in November 2018. It was the only Malayalam film after the romantic film ; 100 Days of Love (2015) which she acted in. She is not only an actress but also a playback singer. She sang two songs for the soundtrack of the film Ala Modalaindi by Nandini Reddy. Later Nandini Reddy has said that Nithya Menen is the discovery of the decade.
